About Maura

As a digital textile designer, I create soulful, nature-inspired patterns for contemporary textiles. Many of the prints in the collections are based on my fiber art. I’ve been a fiber artist most of my life, and use multiple techniques, such as hand-printing and applying a variety of dyes, inks, and acrylic paint. The resulting wallpaper and fabric patterns range from vibrant to playful to traditional and rely heavily on motifs from nature.

I grew up in Louisville, KY. Favorite childhood memories include 1) wearing Seventies-inspired colors and prints, 2) loving time spent outdoors, especially going to camp, 3) trailing my mother through fabric stores, where I discovered my love for color, print, and texture. As a young adult, I learned to sew and made unique quilts and décor pieces. I always wanted to design my own fabric, as I couldn’t often find what I wanted. I eventually learned techniques for printing my own fabric, but the most exciting breakthrough was learning digital skills to modify my fiber art.

I had careers in data analytics and education. I truly loved educating young people and the left-brain challenges of analytics, but I never doubted that a creative career was for me. Today my process involves creating fiber art, often nature-inspired, then digitally modifying it to create patterns for fabric and wallpaper. I’m greatly inspired by travels domestically and abroad. I also collaborate with my spouse, artist Wil Bosbyshell (www.bosbyshellartstudio.com, @wilbosbyshell) on patterns, as he also focuses on trees and landscapes in his work.

I hope my art-forward and soulful patterns engage and inspire; I hope they help people feel more connected to nature, and more connected to each other.
